Well, the secret's FINALLY out. For the past 9 months, I've been incubating a little bundle of joy and it's now in its final trimester. No, it's definitely not what you may think.

Introducing My Life As Fine Art  Red Bank, New Jersey STUDIO & SPA.

It's a beautiful space, where I have the ability to create the most amazing experience for my clients.

This is a house of worship of a different kind, where I can help my clients feel revered and honored, for the day...But in a way that will change their life.

Soaring ceilings and beautiful natural light flood the studio in a gorgeous fashion.

Finding and building this space has been a cathartic journey, a project of the soul that helps me deliver the very BEST photography experience in New Jersey and New York City.  It's also a prime destination for clients who travel and visit from beyond to indulge in the hip, hot town of Red Bank, New Jersey

But to me, this is so much more than a studio space in New Jersey. THIS IS A REBIRTH. I

It is a chance to create epic moments and profound memories in the privacy of this enclave.
It's a place where I can, without boundaries, create beautiful art that's meaningful and memorable.

It's not showy, pretentious or overindulgent. It's just... Heavenly.

And, once all the beautiful treasures of found antiques and luxe, up-cycled furniture are appointed, it will be ultimately swoon-worthy.

"Exclusive?" HELL NO. It's INCLUSIVE.

I always say "Custom Portraits are for Everyone". Everyone deserves to feel special. Art deserves to be preserved. And here, that's what happens. (And maybe just add a luxe organic massage while you're here)  ..winks.  ;)

ON THE RISE. A soaring staircase, made entirely of reclaimed wood from the church leads to a mezzanine loft space and heavenly skylit- setting.

HOW TO PREPARE FOR BOUDOIR SHOOT

New Year's Eve is upon us. How about a little game of... TRUTH OR DARE?

TRUTH=

I believe, wholeheartedly, 1000%, irrevocably, that you are perfect to me, and I can photograph you right now. You do not need to prepare at all.

Every individual has an element of beauty that is invisible to themselves. I can see it. I always see it. EVERY SHOOT, EVERY CLIENT. I want to capture the beautiful sensual person you are TODAY. And then again tomorrow. And maybe even next year, if you'll indulge me.

But time and time again, my new and prospective clients hit me with that old cliche...

"I am just nowhere near boudoir-ready."

Boudoir Ready? What is that? To me, it is NOT about perfection. It is not about looking like a Victoria's Secret model...

It IS about celebrating confidence. Allowing yourself to feel a little vulnerable. Taking a leap of faith that you just might be pretty spectacular. And, it's a chance to open yourself up to something extraordinary. (Not to mention kick one off the bucket list).

Ok, so "I'm not boudoir ready"... That phrase might be YOUR imagined truth. (I still don't believe it, but OK.)  So then, I offer you this...

DARE=

I dare you, to book your shoot, and in 21 Days, get into amazing shape...Feel as gorgeous and confident as ever. Go ahead I dare you. Seem too hard? If you think you need more than 21 Days, go ahead and take it. To me, progress is about having goals and just plowing through them.

Not being a huge risk taker, I usually go for the TRUTH rather than the dare. But it's New Years, so let's "go streak the quad" and go all out on a limb. To help you, I've brought in a DARE MASTER....

A MAKEUP ARTIST'S VIEW ABOUT MAKEUP | LIFE AS FINE ART by Cate Scaglione

LIFE AS FINE ART by CATE SCAGLIONE: A Makeup Artist dishes her views about life with and without makeup

Feeling Gorgeous with Hair and Makeup | Makeup Artistry by Miranda Richards

So much debate about makeup these days. A few days ago, I blogged about the growing "no Makeup Trend" and the Colbie video. It is definitely something that is starting to take root in the photography industry as well. Many of my colleagues are exploring this as a line of their business.

My stylist, Makeup Artistry by Miranda Richards, has her own spin on things:

"I find it such a shame that many women can't appreciate their natural face and unique features for what they are. Insecurities keep them prisoner behind their makeup mask, when it's really something that's meant to be enjoyed.
I remember a time when I couldn't leave my house without a full face of makeup. I would carry all of my essentials with me _everywhere_ I went. Sweating, humidity, and rain would give me anxiety, out of fear that my makeup would run off. Thinking back on it now, that's absolute insanity. It's a burden, and I hate when I see clients suffering from it.
I'm not sure what changed, but there are days now when I'm out all day running around with nothing on my face but moisturizer. On those days, there are moments when I do feel guilty about not wearing makeup, but not because I want to cover up and hide my face. Makeup has grown to be such a close and dear friend to me that I genuinely just love to apply, wear, experiment and grow with it.
Yes, it does make me feel more beautiful; but only in the sense that I'm enhancing the natural beauty in the features I already have, not crafting and contouring myself a new nose. Nothing makes me sadder than when I see a client scrutinizing their face because there "isn't enough" makeup on. It makes me want to shake them!"

Makeup Artistry by Miranda Richards is a stylist to my many award-winning photo sessions, celebrity clients, models and making everyday people look their very best.  Miranda is available for private styling sessions. To contact Miranda, contact her at 973.510.4865 or visit her site here.

DETOXIFYING THE BLOG CONCEPT

LIFE AS FINE ART AND DETOXIFYING THE BLOG

I can remember the first time I ever heard myself ask out loud, "Hey, what is a 'Blog'?" It might have been a decade ago. I never got a clear answer, but all I knew was that if I was in business, I needed to have one.

OK.

At one point in time, blogs were sources of information, inspiration, and revelation. They were online journal where we could get the very best of the web...and the authors within it... to divulge secrets, pictures, opportunities and more. Somewhere along the way, someone figured out that blogs were connected to Google search rankings, controlling how easily someone could search your business on the web, and all hell broke loose. The web got polluted with millions (queue 'Dr. Evil' voice: "Billlllions"...) of blogs. Everyone was posting like drones, not to be heard and share their unique voice, but to have a slot in the big slices of Google pie.

Photographers began hiring people to write blogs FOR THEM. Another's thoughts and feelings, with their name. I know several people who do this. I also know a few people who make a living doing it for photographers.

Most will tell me, that it's not really because they want their wonderful authentic gifts to be shared with the world. No, it is because they need to have "something" to put up on the web once or twice a week...(just like everyone else).

And why not? Retailers and big brands have blogs and social media directors, so why shouldn't we as photographers, right? NO. Actually I think that's wrong. For large companies, people are buying into a product, a widget, a major iconic "thing".  Coca Cola, Marc Jacobs handbags, vegan living.

I am not referring to becoming the occasional curator of excellent stuff on the web you'd like to share with your readers. I am referring to ghost-written brain dumps.

When you are a photographer (or any other creative type for that matter), you are presenting yourself as an artist. YOU are your brand. You have pretty much registered yourself in the game of life as a human product of sorts. Your brain. Your ideas. Your wisdom, served straight up. We as artists are not widgets or global brands...we people. "Creative People."

Our entire persona as an artist is to have a voice in the world and to be heard through our expression. Our readers think they are reading the voice of the artist...the heart, the soul, the wisdom, the ideas; But in reality many of these photographers are deceiving blog readership by some part timer working in her pajamas, earning $10 per post to pretend to be the voice of the person.

For the rest of us, a seemingly rare few who believe in the purity of authenticity, of images...ideas...and wisdom, it became a high pressure cooker. It's a race to post and find a slice of the pie so we can exist as "findable business". Now what the hell am I going to write about?!

I don't care if a blog is imperfect, as long as it is authentic and informative. We as photographers became so wrapped up in cracking the Google code ...The Holy Grail of "Page 1" Google search, that our industry began writing really stupid, redundant, incoherent blog posts, not to be READ, but to be RANKED.

Now, call me stupid, inefficient, or underachieving. But I believe if I am to have a voice online, it will be mine. And I promise not to post stupid links and repeat ten times in a paragraph that I am a "New York and New Jersey Photographer" so you have to witness my incessant Google code cracking. I believe in authenticity. If I have something to share, I will post it. I will not serve you a slice of the online toxic pie. I will serve you something delicious, whatever I am able to bake up that day with my own ingredients. It's called authenticity.
That is just my philosophy, living the LIFE AS FINE ART
